Announcements for the Week of 8/24/2025

August 25, 2025

1. We would like to inform parishioners that Bishop Peter recently traveled to Rome with young people from our diocese to attend the Jubilee Mass for Youth with our newly elected Holy Father. Upon arriving in Malta, however, he began feeling unwell and required medical tests. He has since undergone surgery and is now recovering. Please keep Bishop Peter in your daily prayers and ask for his speedy recovery so he may return to us soon.

2. Please take care to avoid parking or driving through the work areas of the parking lot, and please do not move the cones. You can also park in the school parking lot. We already have new pavement around the Good Shepherd statue, and soon there will be new pavement in front of the office, so please do not walk in the work zones surrounding those areas. If you have business at the office, you may park in front of the hall and use the walkway from there. Also, please look for the signs showing how to walk from the hall to the church.

3. If you haven’t registered your children for Youth Faith Formation, please be sure to do so. Registration closes on September 4th. The cost is $60 per student.

The first class is this Wednesday, August 27. We will meet in the church for Mass at 6 PM. All parishioners are invited to join us for the Mass.

4. OCIA will start Sunday, September 7, at 6 PM. If you haven’t registered, you still can! OCIA classes are for adult Catholics who haven’t received all their Sacraments, or for non-Catholic adults who are considering becoming Catholic. Please email us or come to the office to pick up a registration form.

5. We warmly invite children to become part of our Parish Altar Servers Ministry and encourage parents to support their child's participation in this meaningful role. Altar Servers play an important part in assisting with the celebration of the Mass, and joining this ministry is a wonderful way for young people to actively live out their faith. While it will require some of their time and your commitment, serving at the altar is a beautiful expression of devotion and involvement in the life of Assumption Parish. We hope you will consider this invitation and discuss it as a family. Any student who has received First Holy Communion and whose family is registered with Assumption Parish is eligible to train as an altar server. Our first meeting will take place on September 13th at 12 PM. If your child is interested, we kindly ask parents to contact the parish office and provide their child’s name.

6. The Holy Cross Retreat Center in Las Cruces will be holding the Franciscan Festival of Fine Arts on Labor Day Weekend. There will be over 90 art and food vendors, a Mexican meal or paella, two stages with live music, a silent auction, and donations on entry. Please see the poster for more information.

7. Due to the parking lot renovation, we will not have our parish picnic this year.
